Why I'm Running

Welcome, and thank you for taking the time to learn more about my campaign. I'm running for the Indianapolis City-County Council to represent District 24 on the Southside because I believe City Hall needs to get back to the basics. I believe the residents of District 24 deserve a City Hall that spends taxpayer dollars responsibly, prioritizes safe neighborhoods and reliable infrastructure, and operates with transparency and accountability. If elected, I'll work to be an accessible, common-sense voice for the Southside.

THE GUY WHO RECORDS POTHOLES

What started as a simple act of recording deteriorating roads grew into a deeper commitment to understanding how our local government works. By traveling throughout Indianapolis, documenting the condition of our infrastructure, and speaking with residents from neighborhoods across the city, I began hearing the same concerns again and again. I began asking questions about city contracts, taxpayer spending, and whether the city is delivering the basic services residents deserve.

THE HOOSIER ROOTS

Meet Tyler Mitchell

Tyler Mitchell is a seventh-generation Hoosier, married to Tammi, a father, teacher, and U.S. Army Reserve Major with 21 years of service. Tyler and Tammi live on Indianapolis’s Southside, where they are raising their family and attending Southeast Baptist Tabernacle.

Tyler is running for City-County Council in District 24 with a simple goal: get City Hall back to the basics. That means focusing on public safety, maintaining our roads and infrastructure, delivering essential city services, and being responsible with taxpayer dollars.

Tyler's Priorities

Make Fixing Our Roads Job #1

Our streets are one of the most basic responsibilities of city government. We need to stop simply calling road repair a priority and start treating it like one. Put the money where it belongs, fix our roads, and stop making excuses about state road funding.

Transit Tax Second Chance

Marion County voters were misled about IndyGo. Only 1.8% of Marion County workers commute by public transportation, yet every taxpayer is required to help fund the transit system. It’s time to let voters go back to the polls and decide whether the transit tax should remain in it's current form.

Accountability

Basic city services should be delivered well, on time, and with accountability. Residents shouldn’t have to wonder why a mattress has sat on their street for weeks, or why the city is asking residents to mow its own roundabouts. We need to hold city departments accountable for the services they provide and be transparent about their performance. We shouldn’t keep adding programs and responsibilities while basic services are still falling short.

Strong Public Safety

We must ensure our police officers know their leaders have their back by prioritizing policies that retain, recruit and support the best talent, rather than spending time reimagining criminal justice. And we will hold rogue judges and prosecutors accountable by using the city budget to demand accountability.

Modernize Action Center

Make the Mayor’s Action Center database more transparent so residents can see what action was taken on their street and why. Residents shouldn’t have to file a public-records request just to find out what DPW did in their neighborhood, and why.

City government needs to focus on what matters most. It’s time to prioritize the essentials, rein in wasteful spending, and make sure Indianapolis gets back to the basics.
